Hi Friends,
I thought that I'd take a moment to share some of the things we've discovered in Wyoming. I hope you'll enjoy the images.

Charity Concert With Scott Kirby

Concert for LAM

Please join us in NC State Talley Student Center at 2610 Cates Avenue, Raleigh, NC Room 3118, on Friday, August 22nd at 7:30 PM for a rare performance by singer/songwriters and independent recording artists Scott Kirby with David Edmisten, and Hugo Duarte with Emily Hutchison. The donations for this evening of music will benefit The LAM Foundation and is sponsored by the NC State Women's Center. Donation at the door: $10 adults, $5 children. About LAM: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis, or LAM, is a progressive and frequently fatal lung disease that affects almost exclusively women, usually during their childbearing years. Approximately 1500 women have been diagnosed with LAM, but lead scientists estimate that there are more than 250,000 women worldwide that are unaware they have LAM. Women with LAM often go undiagnosed for years, and are frequently misdiagnosed with asthma, bronchitis, or emphysema. About the musicians: Hugo Duarte and Scott Kirby are well known by fans all over the world for their exceptional songwriting abilities. Both musicians tour throughout the United States and have recorded multiple CDs. Hugo and Scott met in Key West, Florida where they were both living and quickly became friends. Although the friendship has lasted over the years, it is an extremely rare event for both musicians to be performing in the same show.

Thanks to a Friend

I got a really great message from my old Buddy Jim "Axl" Siler yesterday and I asked Jim if he would mind my sharing it with all of you, especially since I've been out on the road and quiet on the website for so long. I thought Jim's message gave a really great impression of what I've been up to in my travels. Thanks again Jim for the encouraging words! Hugo

Hugo:

What a wonderful day yesterday. I was back in FL a week or so ago visiting my wife and I told her about the party and said I was not really planning on going. When she asked who was playing, I told her it was you and Rob Mehl. She said that I was damn well going! So what is a poor hubby to do?? Off I went…man I was glad I did!

You guys did a tremendous job. I have seen you many times but never like that. You were put into a whole new perspective for me yesterday. I was hiding tears under those dark sunglasses!!

Hugo, you got me too with the song about a dear friend lost and the song you wrote with Jerry Gontang. I had heard Jerry do it before, but never heard you do it. AWESOME!

Been a rough few weeks with a ton of travel, some brutally untimely deaths of people way to young or tragically leaving young kids behind. I love music that touches my heart and you guys did that. If you ever run into anyone that knows me and you describe me as the quiet guy sitting by himself and just listening they will say you have the wrong guy. But I grew up in the folk music circle in Boston and I spent Fri nights at coffee houses and concerts in old church halls until I was about 17. Yesterday traveled me back to those days and you guys really touched me.

I will be on the Island Time radio show tonight with Dennis King about 8:15pm pacific. I hope you get a chance to listen because I will be talking about that experience tonight! Please stay in touch and let me know where you will be. Thanks for the music!

Celebration for a Friend

I had someone mention to me recently that we often have sad news posted on this newsboard. I apologize for that fact, it seems to happen way too often, but I hope that everyone will understand that these folks who have been mentioned here are often dedicated fans and, foremost to me, they are my friends. I feel it is my responsibility to acknowledge their importance.

Today, I am remembering all of the good times I shared with my buddy, Larry Beard Sr, a very good man I affectionately referred to as "Cartwheel Willie" after he took a tumble off of my stage as I was performing in Kentucky some years ago and fell 25 or so feet down onto the shore of the river below, landing on his head. I often teased him about that incident over the years and we became very good friends.

I received an email last night from Larry's family informing me that he had passed away on April 24th. They apologized for the delay in letting me know saying that the task was so difficult to do because Larry loved me and my music so much.

Go easy "Cartwheel Willie". I will see you again, my friend.

Best Wishes, Hugo
